Pens vs Capitals 2/7/13 Play By Play

The Pens host the Capitals in the Consol Energy Center! Player Update: The Pens traded Ben Lovejoy to the Anaheim Ducks for a draft pick and called up Dylan Reese from WBS today. Tanger was a game time decision and will not play tonight as he has a lower boy injury.


The Pens lineup is as follows:

3rd Period
0:00- PENS WIN 5-2!!!!! The Pens extend their winning streak to five games and dominated the Caps with five goals in one period! Nice job by the Pens and great goal tending from Flower.

2:00- Bortuzzo sits for interference and the Caps get a PP. After looking at the replay, you can see that Ovechkin knocked the feet out from under Bortuzzo.

2:30- Engo and Ovechkin explode into the boards and Engo comes out the better of it.

4:00- Flower makes an amazing save on Caps Fehr's backhanded shot and makes sure there is no rebound chance for the Caps.

5:08- Geno takes a shot from a bad angle and Holtby comes up with the pad save. The rebound is in the blue paint, but the Caps are able to clear it out of harms way!

8:48- Ovechkin gets a breakaway chance and goes to the backhand to take a shot. Flower gets a piece of it to send it over the net, denying Ovechkin! FLEURY! FLEURY! FLEURY!

9:49- Pens ice the puck and the Pens call a timeout.

11:26- CAPS OVECHKIN SCORES ON THE PP! Ovechkin left wide open lets go of a hard wrist shot and Flower just gets a piece, but it isn't enough. Pens still lead 5-2

13:12- Orpik is sent to the sin bin for roughing and the Caps will get a PP to work with.

14:01- Back to full strength for both teams.

14:30- Flower with an amazing save as he stretches out the pads post to post to make the save.

16:01- Ovechkin takes a seat for cross-checking and Bortuzzo is sent to the sin bin. 4 on 4 hockey

18:47- Neal with a wrist shot and it is gloved up by Holtby!

20:00- Third period time! Time for the Pens to put this game even further out of reach for the Pens! Lets spread out the scoring to some other players, just get everyone one!


2nd Period
0:00- Second period ends and what a period it was. Pens scored five goals to give them a 5-1 lead over the Caps!

0:21- SID SCORES ON THE PP!!! Geno fires a high shot and it goes off the stick of Holtby. Sid (passing right in front of the net) knocks the puck right out of mid-air into the net! Great hand, eye coordination and the Pens extend their lead to 5-1 over the Caps.   

1:03- Sid picks up the rebound and slides it to the net. Looks to be a goal, but Caps Holtby is able to reach back and pull the puck to his glove using his stick. Such a close one.

1:42- Pens will get a PP as Caps Hamrlik will be sent to the sin bin for interference.

3:16- COOKE SCORES!!! Sutter wins a faceoff in the Caps zone and pulls it back to Cooke. Cooke fires it off the faceoff circle and it flies pass Holtby into the net. Pens now leading the Caps 4-1!

3:27- NEAL SCORES A PP GOAL!!! Kuni passes to Neal, who comes across the ice and curls the puck to put it over a laying down Holtby into the net. Pens lead 3-1!

4:18- Pens will get a PP chance as Caps Ward sits for delay of game.

4:20- Sutter with a great shot, taking advantage of gap between the Caps defense. Holtby is able to make the save.

7:11- DUPER SCORES!!! Duper knocks down the puck from mid-air and gets control of it. He fires one from the side of the net and puts it through the pads of Neuvirth. Pens now lead 2-0! Caps pull Neuvirth and put Holtby in the net.

10:00- Geno brings the puck into the Caps zone and circles behind the net with it. His backhanded shot hits the side of the net.

13:01- GENO SCORES ON THE PP!!! Sid lets go off a quick pass to Geno, across ice. Geno holds the puck and then lets go of a wicked shot. His shot is high and over the shoulder of Neuvirth into the net. 1-1 tie game

13:11- Caps Alzner interferes with Neal and the Pens will get a PP chance.

13:33- Ovechkin takes a shot and Flower is out on his angle to make the save.

14:47- Sid comes flying into the Caps zone and lets go of a cross ice pass. It is picked up by Despres, who takes a shot. It is grabbed up by Neuvirth. Good play by Pens.

18:40- Ovechkin takes a shot whiling flying on the ice and Flower is able to get a piece of it, sending it wide of the net. Close call.

20:00- Second period is underway! Pens need to tie up this game and then start putting the Caps in their place! Lets Go Pens!


1st Period
0:00- First period ends. Caps lead the Pens 1-0, but still plenty of time left for the Pens to get the job done.

1:00- The two-headed monster is on the ice. Sid and Geno time as the first period whines down.

4:09- Caps Ovechkin gets a great chance lets a hard shot fly, but Flower shuts him down and makes an amazing save. Pens clear rebound.

5:55- Pens PP ends and the only good chance was at the beginning. Pens didn't get much offensive zone time, Caps were able to hold them at bay.

7:55- Caps Alzner heads to the box for holding and Pens will get a PP.

8:27- Kuni gets the puck off the boards and fires one towards the net. It goes off someone's stick and Neuvirth comes up with the save.

9:19- Just some back and forth hockey going on right now and no one is really setting up anytime offensive zone time.

12:46- Sutter passes the puck to Cooke in the center and he carries it to the net. Cooke backhands a shot at the net and Neuvirth comes up with the save.

15:48- CAPS RIBERIRO SCORES! Wolski is stationed right in front of Flower and bumps into him. Flower falls backwards and losing his goalie mask. Riberiro tips in the rebound shot into the open net as Flower is down. Caps lead 1-0 over the Pens.

19:14- Cooke with a pass to Sid right in front of the net, but the pass doesn't connect and bounces to the back of the net.

20:00- It's Hockey Night in Pittsburgh!! The Pens host the Capitals and lets extend our winning streak to five games boys! Lets Go Pens!
