Pittsburgh: Stronger than Hate

By: MF,

I am glad to be back and able to cover the game tonight. My new full-time job has kept me from doing the website every night, but I am doing better at working out a time schedule that will help me in covering the site while also being able to get some sleep for work.

Now onto tonight's game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders. The city will be united together not only for this hockey game, but as a city united against hate. Though we are wounded, Pittsburgh will never bow down to hate. It's an emotional time for the city.

Let's now turn our minds to this game. Sit back and take some time to get away from the world. Lets Go Pens!

The Pens lineup is as follows:

Guentzel - Crosby - Simon
Hagelin - Malkin - Kessel
Sheahan - Cullen - Hornqvist
Rust - Grant - Sprong

Dumoulin - Riikola
Johnson - Ruhwedel
Maatta - Oleksiak

Murray in the net!

*Kris Letang is out of the lineup tonight due to a lower-body injury*

Pens 3 Islanders 6

3:18 - DeSmith with a solid save to deny Filppula.

6:11 - Eberle scores his second goal of the night. The Islanders get an odd man rush and that leaves Eberle alone with an open net. The Pens challenge for off-sides and it was a close call. The referees end up ruling that the goal stands, which means the Pens will now have to kill off a delay of game penalty. 5-2 Islanders

8:04 - Jordan Eberle scores on the power play. Eberle gets the puck down low and in front of the net. He elevates the puck over the glove of Murray. 4-2 Islanders

20:00 - We are back for the second period! There is still 40 seconds left on Johnson's penalty that the Pens have to kill off. Lets Go Pens!

1:20 - Now the Pens will head onto the penalty kill as Johnson is called for holding.

3:04 - The penalty time comes to an end. Good penalty kill for the Pens.

5:04 - Not a good time for the Pens to take a penalty. A great chance for the Knights here and a big penalty kill for the Pens. Brassard is the one in the box for hooking.

6:00 - Nothing that DeSmith could do one that one. The Pens were caught puck watching and the Knights took advantage. They have been pressuring all period and finally got one. The Pens need to clean up their game.

6:25 - Reilly Smith scores. Marchessault draws the attention to him as he cuts to the front of the net. He outlets a pass to Smith, who is stationed at the side of the net all alone. He puts it behind DeSmith. 4-2 Pens

7:54 - Knights with some good pressure in this period. The Pens sitting back a bit.

6:12 - Rust with an amazing play in front of the net. Poked the puck away from William Karlsson, which was a for sure goal for him otherwise.

7:34 - The lines have been switched up a little bit for the Pens. Hornqvist and Rust have swapped.

11:57 - KESSEL SCORES! Malkin wins an offensive zone faceoff right back to Kessel. Kessel fires it immediately, through traffic and past Malcolm Subban. 1-1 tie game.

13:30 - Tomas Nosek scores. A bad turnover by the Pens leads the Knights down the ice. Karlsson drives the net and backs DeSmith deep into his night. Nosek is able to backhand a shot under the arm, blocker side, of DeSmith. 1-0 Knights

16:20 - Solid start for DeSmith. The Pens are able to kill off Simon's penalty.
