Alphabetically Penguins Come Before Predators!

By: MF,

Tonight's game is going to be a huge test for the Pens who have let their last two games slip through their hands. The Penguins are in Nashville to face the Predators and this game is going to be a tough one if they Penguins don't change their ways. The previous two games (Philadelphia Flyers and Detroit Red Wings) the Penguins held a commanding lead, but as the game ran on the Penguins let their lead slip. They didn't play a full 60 minute game and went on the defense quickly after gaining the lead. Tonight the Penguins will have to dig deep and keep putting the pressure on the Predators even if they have a huge lead, because we all know that no lead is safe in the NHL.

The Penguins will see a familiar face on the enemy team as this will be the first match-up between the two teams, since the Penguins traded James Neal for Patric Hornqvist and Nick Spaling. Both Hornqvist and Spaling played a combined 660 games for the Predators, so this will be weird seeing their former team also. For the game tonight the Predators are giving out Neal bobble heads to fans. So far this season the numbers for the traded players look like this:
Patric Hornqvist: 4 Goals, 4 Assists, 8 Points, 1 Power Play Goal, and 1 Game Winning Goal
Nick Spaling: 1 Goal, 1 Assist, 2 Points, and +1 Rating
James Neal: 5 Goals, 5 Points, 1 Game Winning Goal, and 26 Shots

On the goal front Marc-Andre Fleury will start in the net tonight after getting some rest. The Predators look like they will have Pekka Rinne as their netminder. This is how the two goalies stack up against each other when they face one another:
Marc-Andre Fleury: 5-2-1, 1.94 Goals Against Average, and .923 Save Percentage
Pekka Rinne: 1-2-1, 3.55 Goals Against Average, and .867 Save Percentage

As for stats for the Penguins, Sid has a total of 14 points against the Predators. He seems to do well at putting up points against them, but usually that isn't a problem for him. Evgeni Malkin is riding a 6 game assist streak, which is currently the longest in the NHL so far this season. The Penguins power play has fallen to 36.4%, but it's still deadly. The Penguins will look to capitalize on the power play to get this number back up.

The Penguins are in Detroit!

By: MF,

This is the second of back to back games for the Pittsburgh Penguins as they will face the Red Wings in Detroit. The Penguins are coming off a hard loss to the Philadelphia Flyers at Consol last night (5-3). The game was a sloppy one by the Penguins and they didn't look good in the game. They had their moments, but overall it was a poor job by the team. Instead of a fresh team they looked tired as if they played the night before, which the Flyers had and they looked fresh. The Penguins will have to bounce back and play a full 60 minute game.

A side note: the Pittsburgh Penguins organization did a great job of showing their support to Ottawa after the tragic events that unfolded yesterday. They played O'Canada before the United States Anthem and the entire crowd at Consol Energy Center participated. It was heart warming and made me even prouder to call myself a Penguins fan.

On a lighter note, the Penguins third jerseys looked awesome! They where the best third jerseys I have seen in awhile for the Penguins. Too bad they might have back luck after that loss...time will tell.

The game tonight will determine if the Penguins will be able to put the Flyers game behind them and move on to focus on this game. They need to come out with speed and play a sound game. There will be no room for sloppiness against the Red Wings! Lets Go Pens!

The Pens lineup is as follows:

Forwards
Kuni, Sid, Hornqvist
Duper, Geno, Comeau
Spaling, Sutter, Downie
Sill, Goc, Adams

A Rivalry That Runs Deep!

By: MF,

This is the start of back to back games for the Pittsburgh Penguins and they will not be easy ones. The first game is in Pittsburgh against the cross-state rivals, the Philadelphia Flyers! The Penguins are coming off a great win against the New York Islanders, thanks in large part to the number one ranked power play in the NHL. Along with a great win, Sidney Crosby became the sixth fastest NHL player to reach 500 career assists.

Now the Penguins have rested since that game and should be refreshed for this game against the Flyers. They will have to be on their game and ready for a fight. The Penguins will have to use that first ranked power play (47.1%) as these games are known for penalties.

Their are also great stats for players against the Flyers. First of all Sid has 30 career goals against the Flyers, which happens to be the most he has against any team. Evgeni Malkin has 58 career points when it comes to the Flyers, which is the most against any other team. Lastly Kris Letang is riding a three game assist streak with all the assist coming on the power play.

The morning skate went well as the only players missing where the Penguins recent call-ups Harrington and Ebbett, who happened to play last night for WBS. Bortuzzo participated in the skate. Mike Johnston commented on his condition saying that if Bortuzzo had a solid practice on Friday he will be close to coming back.

Tonight's game will be the first time the Penguins will put on their third jerseys, which pay homage to the 1990s. The Penguins will have to come out to start this game with speed and not let up. They have to keep their tempers in check against this Flyers team. They cannot let the Flyers derail their game. Lets Go Pens!

Bounce Back Time!

By: MF,

It's time for the Pittsburgh Penguins to bounce back after a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to the Dallas Stars Thursday night. The Penguins took an early lead 2-0 over the Stars in the first period, but let the game slip away from them as the Stars scored with 2.9 seconds left in the game to get the win. It was the first loss of the season for the Penguins under the new coach Mike Johnston. Now we will see what kind of bounce back they have as they face the 4-0 New York Islanders at Consol Energy Center. A loss wasn't the only bad news for the Penguins as Pascal Dupuis went down during the game. Dupuis ended up being carried off the ice on a stretcher. It was a scary moment for the Penguins and fans alike. Dupuis did skate yesterday before practice and skated with the team today, which is great news! I speak for all Penguin fans when I say how happy I am to hear of Dupuis skating and having no severe injuries. Mike Johnston said that Dupuis would be a game time decision. Otherwise the lineup looks to be the same as previous games and I hope the Penguins will come out flying tonight against a hot Islanders team. The Penguins need to stay focus for the full 60 minutes of the game. Hopefully with the good news about Dupuis the Penguins can focus better. Lets Go Pens!

Time to Light Up the Stars in Pittsburgh!

By: MF,

The Pittsburgh Penguins are coming off a long break to start the season and will face the Dallas Stars at Consol Energy Center. The Penguins have had a great start to the season under their new head coach Mike Johnston with a 2-0 record. Their PP is coming in at 44.4% and looks like it will continue to go up. The Penguins have been known to have a sluggish start to their game after a long game, but tonight could be different. It will interesting to see how the Penguins come out to start this game after having such a long break. The last ten games against the Dallas Stars have been in the Penguins favor with a 8-2 record. The Penguins have been having good practices and things seem to be going well. The only players that were missing from practice have been Robert Bortuzzo and Beau Bennett (lower body injuries). The new players are falling into their roles with little effort and the team seems to be clicking. I hope the Penguins can keep the momentum rolling in their favor and we will have no trouble getting to the playoffs this season. However we will just look to get a victory against Dallas to start and take it one game at a time. No need for any of us to get ahead of ourselves. The Penguins may have had a great start, but it's about keeping up the work and not letting anything get in their way. Lets Go Pens!

The Pens lineup is as follows:

Forwards
Kuni, Sid, Hornqvist
Duper, Sutter, Geno
Comeau, Goc, Downie
Adams, Spaling, Sill

Defense
Maatta, Tanger
Ehrhoff, Martin

The Start of Something New!

By: MF

It's finally here! The start of the Pittsburgh Penguins 2014-15 hockey season! It has been a long summer with many changes and new faces coming to the Penguins. We have a new General Manager, Head Coach, new trades, new players. This hasn't been an easy summer for Penguin fans as we have been unsure about the future of the Penguins. Penguin fans have seen many old faces leave the team and it has made the team look strange. It has taken some getting use to and will continue to be through the beginning of the season. Hopefully the Penguins new foundation is a solid one, which will continue onto a Stanley Cup. However we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves...I am just glad to have Penguins hockey back! Some small updates before the game, Evgeni Malkin will be in the lineup tonight after missing all of training camp due to an undisclosed injury. He will skate on Brandon Sutter's line on the right wing with Pascal Dupuis (who hasn't played since December 23rd, 2013) on the left. Also Olli Maatta will be in the lineup after having shoulder surgery in May. Lets start out this new season with a dominating win!

Kuni, Sid, Hornqvist

Comeau, Goc, Downie
