Pens Home Opener vs Maple Leafs

The Pens are set to take on the Maple Leafs in their home opener at the Consol Energy Center!!

The Pens lineup is as follows:
Forwards:
Kuni, Sid, Duper
Tangradi, Geno, Neal
Cooke, Sutter, TK
Glass, Vitale, Adams

Defense:
Orpik, Martin
Niskanen, Tanger
Despres, Engo

Flower in the net!



Play By Play

1st Period:
20:00- It is officially Hockey Night in Pittsburgh! The puck drops and the game begins! Lets Go Pens!

19:14- Duper with a nice wrist shot, stopped by the shoulder of Reimer and he covers it up for a whistle.

18:28- Grabovsky with a cross-ice pass to a wide open Kulemin, who snaps one on net. He is robbed by Flower who makes a hard save earlier, going from post to post.

15:45- Flower making another pad save as Leafs hold Pens in their own zone. Flower is being tested earlier and Pens able to hold down the fort. Pens clear the puck out of their own zone.

14:02- It's go time! Engo and Orr drop the gloves to have a rematch of last time (where Engo knocked him out). Engo with a hard punch and as Bobby said "His head snapped back like a pez dispenser!" Good fight on both parts!

11:24- Orpik takes a hard shot from the point and it's just redirect wide of the net!

10:00- Pens ice the puck after a clearing attempt. Adams with a great back check on Kessel in an earlier play. Pens working every shift.

9:38- Kuni will have to take a seat for two minutes as he is called for boarding. Leafs with a PP.

7:38- Pens kill off the Leafs PP. Adams with a great effort on the PK to keep the puck out of the Pens zone.

6:36- Leafs able to break up Tangradi's cross-ice pass to Geno, who was right in front of the Leafs net.

5:06- Adams just everywhere on his shift! Back-checking and keeping the puck in the Leafs zone. Great effort by Adams

4:42- Pens are headed to the PP as Leafs Gunnarsson sits for interference.

4:02- Sid with a wide open net chance, but the puck is just out of his reach.

2:36- Leafs able to hold off Pens PP. Reimer keeping the Pens at bay for the Leafs.

2:07- Pens are back on the PP as Leafs Komisarek gets a boarding penalty.

1:09- GENO SCORES PP GOAL! Tanger with a pass up to Sid, who circles and drawls to Leafs players along with him. Sid passes to Geno, who is stationed at the side of the net. Geno whips one on a moving Reimer and the Pens are up 1-0!

0:30- Flower is being solid in the net as the Leafs test the Pens defense!

0:00- First period ends! Pens lead 1-0 after a PP goal by Geno!

2nd Period
20:00- Second period is underway! Lets see if the Pens can add to their lead!

19:22- Duper will take a seat for two minutes as he is called for hooking. Leafs bring out their PP unit.

17:21- Pens kill off another penalty. Good PK and Sid getting a chance at a breakaway opportunity.

16:51- LEAFS MACARTHUR SCORES! Kessel shots the puck to the front of the net and MacArthur is able to redirect it pass Flower, who was tied up by Engo. 1-1 tie game.

15:10- Geno with a huge chance in front of the net, right on Reimer's doorstep! Reimer robs Geno!

13:23- Vitale with a hard shot that just goes wide of the net.

13:12- LEAFS VAN RIEMSDYK SCORES! Van Riemsdyk is just barely able to get the puck pass Flower and over the goal line, putting the Leafs up 2-1 over the Pens.

12:43- SID SCORES! Sid blows pass the Leafs defense and Duper sends a pass his way. Sid takes it and rips it pass Reimer through the five-hole. Like that it's a tie game!

11:15- Engo heads to the box for tripping and the Leafs get a PP to work with.

10:05- Cooke to the box for slashing. Leafs with a 5 on 3 PP for 50 seconds.

9:15- Pens kill off the Leafs first PP and now just a regular PP left for another 55 seconds.

8:12- Tanger off to the box for boarding. Leafs with a 5 on 3 chance for 7 seconds.

8:04- Pens now killing off a regular PP for a 1:30. Flower with a great glove save on Phil Kessel!

6:12- Pens kill off 4 Leaf power plays in a row! Great effort by Pens PK unit and Flower standing strong in the net!

5:26- LEAFS VAN RIEMSDYK SCORES! Van Riemsdyk with a wicked wrist shot that goes over the glove of Flower, putting the Leafs up 3-2 over the Pens.

4:03- Leafs Kostka will take a seat for holding of the stick and the Pens will get a PP.

3:03- Leafs avoid any damage from the Pens PP chance.

0:00- Pens working hard down low behind the Leafs net and battling hard for the puck before the period ends. Second period concludes and the Leafs lead the Pens 3-2.

3rd Period
20:00- Third period begins! Pens need to put some pucks in the net and take back the lead over the Leafs! Lets Go Pens!

18:31- Puck is loose in front of the Leafs net and the Pens crash the net. Pens will get a PP as Kostska will sit for interference.

16:30- Leafs able to survive another Pens PP.

15:44- Flower is able to get a piece the puck to direct a Leafs shot wide. Pens able to clear.

14:41- LEAFS GRABOVSKI SCORES! Grabovski able to get a lucky bounce and lift the puck pass the glove of Flower. Leafs now lead by two goals. 4-2 Leafs

12:52- Leafs ice the puck and they decide to call a timeout to rest the tired players.

10:58- Leafs doing a good job at collapsing on their net and breaking up Pens plays.

8:55- Van Riemsdyk will take a seat for hooking and the Pens will get a PP chance.

8:15- Sid with a amazing redirect shot off a pass from Geno. Reimer robs Sid of a great chance.

8:09- Kuni will now be sent to the sin bin for a boarding penalty. 4 on 4 hockey for 1:14.

6:55- Leafs now with a 43 second PP. Flower puts the paddle down to make a save in tight space.

6:08- Pens survive the Leafs PP. Back to full strength.

4:26- Pens trying to get some offense going! Leafs able to protect their goalie pretty well.

1:51- Pens empty the net!

1:50- Pens get a too many men on the ice penalty and Sid with an additional unsportsmanlike penalty. Leafs get a 5 on 3 PP.

1:36- Flower with another great glove save on Kessel.

1:01- BOZAK SCORES PP GOAL! Bozak able to get on pass Flower on the Leafs 5 on 3 PP.

0:00- Leafs win 5-2 over the Pens. Pens just couldn't get the edge on the Leafs during this game.
