Pens vs Rangers Review

The Pens clinched home ice with a win over the Rangers 5-2.

The Pens took the early lead thanks to a redirected shot by Kuni. The Pens came out strong and getting a 2 on 1 chance right before the goal. It was good to see the Pens with some energy.

Strait had some trouble adjusting, but that was expected and he progressed as the game continued. Fedtoenko blows pass him to step up the Rangers for their even up goal.

The Pens didn't sit back they went for it. Sid and Kuni had a great chance. Sid and Geno played most of the together creating great chances. It was TK that came out on the next shift that put the Pens back in the lead. With a great bad angle shot.

The Pens had some defending to do with the Rangers getting a power play late in the period. The penalty kill was great and Flower was solid in the net. The Pens spent a bit to much time in their zone, but Flower bailed them out. The first period ended with the Pens leading 2-1.

As the second period began Flower had to make a huge save on Gaborik. Both teams played some 4 on 4 hockey as Tanger and Callahan sat in the box.

With both teams back at full strength, the Pens came hard at the Rangers. Duper shot a puck that was saved and Park fought to get the rebound. He stuffed the puck in between the post and skate of Biron to get the Pens a two goal lead. It was a great effort by Park.

Pens had a power play and cycled the puck very well, but nothing came of it. The Pens kept up the pressure and didn't stop till they had to go on the penalty kill.

The Pens kill and get a great chance hitting the goal post beating Biron. The Pens owned the second period getting a 3-1 lead over the Rangers.

The third period began and it was a back and forth hockey game. Pens and Rangers getting some chances. Flower was a brick wall in the net and made great pad save on Mare Staal. Staalsy got a short-handed opportunity, but his shot went high over the net.

After the penalty kill Sid, Geno, and Kuni came onto the ice. Sid had a great board pass for Kuni, but just out of his reach. Kuni didn't give up and went for the puck behind the net. He passed to Geno, charging to the net and shot it five-hole on Biron. Geno put the Pens up 4-1 and notched his 49th goal of the season (one step closer to his 50 goal mark.)

Flower made some glorious saves after the Pens 4th goal. He flashed his famous glove and shut down a quality chance by Marc Staal.

Orpik and Stepan collided at center ice. Orpik was going for a open ice hit at the blue line and Stepan tried to avoid the hit. Orpik hit the leg/knee of Stepan. Orpik got a five minute major and a game misconduct. Rangers coach Torts was livid and yelling.

With a power play the Rangers Boyle was able to put one in the net too give the Rangers some life. The Rangers still with a power play emptied their net.

Tanger puts one in the empty net while the Pens were short handed.

That would be the end and the Pens came out with a 5-2 win over the Rangers. It was a solid performance for Flower and it gives the Pens momentum for Saturday's game against the Flyers.
