Time to Sweep the Capitals!

By: MF, The Pens Hockey Show

It's great to be back tonight after a long work night, but nothing like working for an NHL team. I was excited to see the Penguins come out with a win against the Washington Capitals. Sidney Crosby tallied three points that night in a 3-2 win. The Penguins are now back home and will be facing the Capitals once again. This is of course a huge rivalry. It's the last regular season game against the Capitals and look to keep their winning streak against them going. I think the Penguins can handle it tonight. The Capitals will be playing the same netminder tonight Jaroslav Halak. The Penguins have to come out with speed and take it early to the Capitals as they will be playing some desperate hockey to get a much needed two points.

The Pens lineup is as follows:

Forwards
Kuni, Sid, Stempniak
Jokinen, Geno, Neal
Pyatt, Sutter, Gibbons
Glass, Goc, Adams

Defense
Orpik, Maatta
Scuderi, Niskanen
Despres, Bortuzzo

Flower in the cage!

3rd Period
0:00- PENS WIN 2-0 OVER THE CAPITALS!! FLEURY WAS AMAZING IN THE NET AND EARNED HIS 5TH SHUTOUT OF THE SEASON!! FLEURY WAS THE #1 STAR AND THE PENS KEEP THE WINNING STREAK ALIVE AGAINST THE CAPITALS!!

0:46- Caps call a timeout! Lets do this Pens!

1:16- The Caps have an empty net as Halak heads to the bench.

4:08- Despres heads to the sin bin for interference and the Caps get another PP opportunity.

7:09- Flower flashes the glove to make a great save from a blue line wrister!

8:50- The Pens PP comes to an end. Sid puts up the puck at the side of the net, but his shot is just saved by the toe of Halak. That was so close for the Pens.

9:58- The Pens will now have a PP for 1:08.

10:50- We will have some 4 on 4 hockey for 52 seconds as Backstrom is called for high sticking.

11:58- The Caps will now get a PP chance as Niskanen is sent to the box for high sticking.

12:33- Flower slams the door shut on Ovechkin's shot and holds down the fort as Beagle tries to jam in the puck.

13:03- Kuni is back on the ice for his shift.

16:24- Kuni gets speed into the offensive zone, but Mike Green pushes Kuni. He falls down and goes sliding into the goal post. Makes one thing of Steven Stamkos and how he was injured. He skates off to the bench, but is in some discomfort.

18:54- Neal gets behind everyone, but Halak comes up with a huge pad save to deny him the goal.

20:00- Time for the third period! The Pens need to keep playing smart and control the speed of this game! Lets Go Pens!

2nd Period
0:00- The second period comes to an end and the Pens still hold the lead 1-0 over the Caps!

2:30- The ice has seemed to tilted towards the Caps side, but the Pens are holding down the fort and have started to look like they are coming out of the storm as the period whines down.

6:10- The Caps have been able to put more pucks on net this period, but Flower has been their to shut the door on everyone. Solid performance by the Flower so far in this game.

8:57- Flower in down in the blue paint, but lifts his leg up to make an amazing pad save!

11:43- Stempniak makes a beautiful move around the Caps defense to get a one on one with Halak. Halak makes the pad save. Right afterwards Stempniak knocks the puck out of mid-air in front of the net and hits the crossbar!

14:35- The Caps are able to kill off the Pens PP and we are back to full strength hockey.

16:35- The Pens will get the first PP of the game as the Caps to a too many men on the ice penalty.

5:10- Scuderi blasts a shot from the blue line, but Halak is able to glove up the puck.

5:36- Finally the refs have to blow the whistle and stop play as Halak covers the puck for a faceoff.

6:20- This game hasn't had a whistle or stoppage for over 13 minutes! This is crazy, but makes for an interesting tempo.

8:58- The Pens are starting to get more physical as the Pens are laying some hard hits in the offensive zone.

12:21- The Pens have great energy to start this game and really playing a strong game. The Caps are turning over pucks as the Pens are forcing their way. Hopefully the Pens can keep it going.
