The Penguins battle the Oilers in first of back-to-back games in Western Canada

The Pittsburgh Penguins will be taking on the Edmonton Oilers in a first of back-to-back games. The only update to add is that Matt Cullen will be out of the lineup due to an injury. Otherwise, no other changes to the lineup as far as injuries since the last game.

The main headline is that Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid will faceoff for the first time in the Oilers new home arena.

The Pens lineup is as follows:

0:00 - Shootout time everyone.

0:05 - Fleury with another game saver!

0:29 - Power play times comes to an end for the Pens.

2:29 - Pens to the power play. Four-on-three power play chance.

2:47 - Desharnais with a chance at the side of the net, but Fleury outstretches his pad to make the stop. Scorpion save!

3:30 - A tired McDavid gets a breakaway chance, but Fleury challenges. That was way too close.

5:00 - Overtime hockey is underway! The Pens need to end this one early and with a win! Lets Go Pens!


3rd Period
0:00 - This game is headed to overtime.

2:13 - Fleury has been unreal. Especially in the last few minutes of this period.

4:23 - Kessel gets a breakaway chance, but he is denied by the pad of Talbot!

7:15 - McDavid scores on the power play. The puck bounces off Lucic in front and comes out to McDavid at the side all alone. Fleury is unable to get over in time. 2-2 tie game

9:04 - Not a good time to take a penalty. Ruhwedel heads to the box for hooking and the Oilers get a critical power play opportunity.

10:50 - Just holding on the lead right now. That is what the Pens are doing. They are not pressuring as much, but they do need to save a bit for tomorrow's game.

13:25 - The Oilers have crashed the net twice now, but Fleury has held strong. The Pens weathering another storm.

18:43 - Dumoulin races up the ice to get a two-on-one chance with Guentzel. Guentzel slides a pass across to Dumoulin, but Talbot is able to get over to make the save.

19:18 - Successful penalty kill for the Pens. Oilers last shot on the power play rang off the crossbar. Fleury gives the bar some love afterwards.

20:00 - Time for the third period! The Pens have 42 seconds left to kill off the Oilers power play! The need to get the kill and get back to pressuring the Oilers! Lets Go Pens!


2nd Period
0:00 - Horn sounds on the second period and the Pens still hold the lead after two!

1:18 - Now the Oilers will have a chance on the power play as Schultz sits for cross-checking.

4:27 - Oilers have had quite a few scoring chances this period, but Fleury is keeping the Pens in the lead.

8:40 - McDavid gets around Dumoulin somewhat and takes the puck to the net, but Fleury is having none of that.

8:55 - A four-on-two chance for the Oilers and Russell fires, but Fleury flashes the glove to deny him.

9:16 - Fleury has been very aggressive in this one. Coming out to challenge and getting the poke check out every chance he can.

12:02 - Fleury makes a save on a point shot. The puck is loose in the blue paint and Fleury stretches out his pad to stop another chance. The Oilers and Pens crash the net. Eventually the referee blows the whistle.

13:01 - Malkin toe drags around Larsson, but his shot just goes wide.

14:59 - Desharnais scores. Russell throws the puck on net and it is redirected by Kassian in front. Fleury makes the first save, but Desharnais gets to the rebound first to put it in. The Oilers had more bodies in front then the Pens. 2-1 Pens

15:28 - Fleury has been very active with the poke check on McDavid.

18:03 - That will be the end of the power play for the Pens.

20:00 - We are back for the second period! The Pens have a power play for 1:56 to start this period! Lets Go Pens!


1st Period
0:00 - First period horn sounds and the Pens hold the 2-0 lead over the Oilers!

0:04 - The Pens get a late power play as Larsson is ticketed for tripping.

2:35 - MALKIN SCORES! Malkin comes flying down the wing and fires a shot! Talbot looks to have stopped it, but it tickles behind him in the blue paint! McDavid tires to kick it out, but it bounces of Talbot and into the net! 2-0 Pens

4:37 - This game has a good flow to it. Not many whistles or stoppages.

5:19 - The Oilers bring the puck right to the net and a scramble ensues. Fleury puts the stick down and is able to keep the puck out of the net.

7:28 - Steigy has made a comment twice that Kessel doesn't look right. He did collide with Malkin on a previous shift. Hopefully it is nothing serious.

8:50 - Fleury makes a solid save down low and is able to get the puck out of the area. The Pens are a bit sloppy in the defensive zone, they need to clean it up for the Oilers will take advantage.

11:02 - Maroon lays two hard hits. One on Ruhwedel and the other on Kunitz. The crowd sounds their approval.

14:18 - BONINO SCORES! Schultz drags the puck to center and fires on net! Talbot makes the first save, but falls over! The puck bounces out to Wilson who goes behind the net and outlets to Bonino at the side! Bonino doesn't miss! 1-0 Pens

16:29 - Some nice looks for the Pens to start this game. The Pens have to keep up the pressure and watch out for McDavid. 

19:30 - McDavid uses his speed to get a chance in front, but Fleury brings out the poke check to break up his chance. Nice opening save by the Flower. 

20:00 - The puck has dropped in Edmonton! The Pens have to take it to the Oilers early and shut down McDavid! Lets Go Pens!
