The Quaker State Showdown!

The Penguins are set to take on their cross-state rivals the Philadelphia Flyers! The Flyers come into this game 1-6 to start the season and are looking to get out of that slump. The Penguins only have one loss (5-1) this season and look to keep it that way. At the morning skate, D'Agostini skated today and Letang rotated in the defense pairings for the morning skate. The only ones missing were Bennett and Neal, who are both out with injuries. Engo played up on the fourth line and Byslma said that he might play forward for this game. We will have to wait and see, the lineup is a game time decision.

The Pens lineup is as follows:

Forwards
Kuni, Sid, Duper
Jokinen, Geno, Kobasew
Glass, Sutter, Adams
Zolnierczyk, Vitale, Engo

Defense
Orpik, Martin
Scuderi, Niskanen
Maatta, Bortuzzo

Flower in the cage!

Play By Play
Pens 4 Flyers 1

3rd Period
0:00- PENS WIN 4-1 AGAINST THE FLYERS!!!! FLOWER IS 0-6 AND THE PENS ARE 6-1!!

0:12- GENO SCORES!!!! Geno fires one into the empty net!

1:36- Flyers have an empty net!

2:32- SID SCORES!!! Duper passes through the blue paint to Sid. He just taps one into the wide open net. 3-1 Pens

3:43- Once again Flower comes up big time. Stopping the puck with Flyers right on his doorstep.

7:16- The Pens playing more of a defensive style right now, but that isn't the way you want to play against a desperate Flyers team that is 1-6 and hungry for more wins.

9:42- Flower really solid in the net right now for the Pens. Just making unreal saves left and right. The Pens need to pick up their offensive a little more.

11:45- Mason coming up with big saves for the Flyers. The only reason they are only down by one goal and still in this one.

14:02- The Pens finally clear the puck from their end. Time for them to start a charge up ice.

14:37- The Pens kill off the Flyers PP.

16:37- The Flyers are going right back onto the PP as Niskanen is called for roughing.

16:39- The Pens are able to kill off the Pens PP.

18:39- Flower absolutely robs Simmonds with a quick glove save, while laying on his stomach!

19:45- The Flyers will get a PP early in this period as Orpik heads to the box for hooking.

20:00- Time for the Pens to wrap this game up with a big W and keep the Flyers from gaining anymore momentum! Lets Go Pens!

2nd Period
0:00- Second period ends and the Pens still have the lead 2-1!

0:02- SIMMONDS SCORES ON THE PP! Simmonds redirects a shot from the point on the PP. No way Flower could of seen that one change direction. Pens still lead 2-1

0:59- Flower gets an interference penalty on Talbot and Jokinen will serve it for the Flower. Big kill for the Pens, they can't let the Flyers get any momentum.

3:33- The Pens are getting some good chances and not letting the Flyers get anything set up. Note: first time Sid has gotten a point in the first seven games of a season in his career.

5:57- The Pens PP comes to an end. No PP goals for the Pens tonight, but don't need them it seems.

6:57- The Pens with yet another PP chance as Schenn is called for cross-checking.

7:47- KUNI SCORES!! Niskanen fires a shot from the point and it goes off Mason. Kuni gets to the rebound and puts it into the back of the net! 2-0 Pens

9:15- Coburn gets a shot off in the slot area and Flower squeezes the pads together. Flower puts his glove behind him and takes a look back, he knew that was a quick shot. Guess Flower was quicker!

10:17- JOKINEN SCORES! The Flyers turn over the puck at their own blue line. Geno makes a pass up to Jokinen. Jokinen lets go of a wrist shot on the far side and it blows pass Mason! 1-0 Pens

12:34- Bortuzzo and NewBury drop the gloves and we have a fight on our hands! Bortuzzo got some good hits in there and had the size advantage. They will now take a seat.

13:33- The Flyers get a chance on the side boards, but the Pens are quick to turn the puck back up ice. Geno is caught off-sides by a pass that was a bit behind him.

15:36- Engo gets two whacks at the puck in front of the net, but somehow Mason denies him!

16:58- Sid comes into the Flyers zone with speed and passes to Kuni. Kuni fires a slap shot, but Mason makes the pad save.

19:16- The Pens PP comes to an end and the Flyers are back to full strength.

20:00- Time for the second period and the Pens still have 1:02 left on the PP! Lets get an early goal Pens! Lets Go Pens!

1st Period
0:00- First period ends and we are scoreless! The Pens still have a PP for another 1:02 to work with.

0:58- The Pens will get a PP! Coburn called for tripping!

3:15- Flower is working overtime right now. The Flyers had a few good chances, but Flower looked like a brick wall in the net. The Pens need to pick up their offensive efforts. I will say Engo doesn't look comfortable on the wing and Geno hasn't clicked with Kobasew on his wing.

5:02- Kuni makes a cross-ice pass to Sid, who has a chance at the side of the net. The puck was just out of the reach of his stick. Great play by the Pens first line!

7:34- Flower has been strong in the net and keep the Flyers from getting anything. The Pens are doing a good job of keeping the Flyers chances to a minimum.

9:34- The Flyers PP ends and the Pens had a great PK effort.

11:34- The Pens will have to kill a Flyers PP as Vitale is called for tripping.

12:04- The Pens PP ends and Mason was the only reason the Pens haven't scored yet.

14:04- The Pens get another PP as Hall is called for interference.

16:59- The Pens PP comes to an end and Giroux is set free. The Pens had some nice looks on net, but Mason was there to make the saves.

18:59- The Pens are getting a PP chance as Giroux takes a seat for hooking.

20:00- The Quaker State Showdown is on! The Pens are ready to go! Lets Go Pens!
