Time to clip some Wings!

By: MF,

Welcome back! It was a nice few days of relaxing and not stressing about the Pittsburgh Penguins bouncing back, especially after a horrible loss to the Vancouver Canucks. Not writing, talking, and arguing about their horrible game and effort. Now they have had a few days rest and time to gather their thoughts as they will face the Detroit Red Wings at Consol Energy Center!

The Penguins come into this game having with only one loss against the Red Wings at Consol, which came on December 13, 2011. While Evgeni Malkin is currently riding a six game point streak against the Red Wings with four goals and five assists. In his career, Malkin has points in seven of eight games against the Red Wings. On top of this, the Penguins have only 15 losses in regulation, which is the fewest in the Metropolitan Division and puts them fourth in the National Hockey League (NHL).

The Penguins home point leaders include Malkin, Sidney Crosby, and Kris Letang. Malkin is ranked fourth in the NHL with 30 points, Crosby 13th with 27 points, and Letang is second among defensemen in the NHL with 21 points. Crosby will also appear in his 600th career game tonight! Congrats to out Captain!

Another big guy for the Penguins is their netminder Marc-Andre Fleury. He has 10 wins against Atlantic Division teams, which ties him for the most in the NHL with Tampa Bay Lightning's goaltender Ben Bishop. Fleury is also riding a shutout sequence of 131:40. He goes into this game with a 10-1-2 record, 1.99 goals-against-average (GAA), .930 save percentage (SVP), and two shutouts against the Atlantic Division this season.

However, part of Fleury's success is the defenders supporting him like Simon Despres. Despres leads the team with 159 hits, which ranks him fourth in the NHL among defensemen. In addition, he tied a career high with two assists in the Penguins' only meeting with the Red Wings this season.

Onto the morning skate, Chirstian Ehrhoff (concussion symptoms) and Mark Acrobello (waivers) were the only ones absent. Blake Comeau was among the players and doing line rushes. He has been out with a upper body injury. Comeau says he is ready to go and hopes to play tonight. UPDATE: Looks like he is back in the lineup!

The Penguins have to come out with speed and shut down the Red Wings early! They can't allow them to breath! Lets Go Pens!

The Pens lineup is as follows:

Forwards
Kunitz, Crosby, Perron
Comeau, Geno, Hornqvist
Spaling, Sutter, Bennett
