The Pens lineup is as follows:

Forwards
Guentzel - Crosby - Hornqvist
Hagelin - Malkin - Rust
Simon - Brassard - Kessel
Kuhnhackl - Sheahan - Sheary

Black and yellow battle in Boston

By: MF,

The Pittsburgh Penguins find themselves back on the road to take on the Boston Bruins. The Penguins are looking to snap a two-game losing streak, after having both their winning streak and home winning streak snapped in back-to-back games.

On the injury front, Zach Aston-Reese is the newly added Penguin with an upper-body injury. He was injured during practice and Head Coach, Mike Sullivan stated that it's a longer-term injury. Also, on the list is Matt Murray who is still recovering from a concussion he sustained during practice.

Not much to add to that. Tonight, the Penguins need to focus on starting the game will speed and pressure. They haven't had good starts in the last two games and that has allowed the opponents to take advantage. After that, the Penguins need up playing catch up, which hasn't been working out. Lets Go Pens!

The Pens lineup is as follows:

Forwards
Guentzel - Crosby - Rust
Hagelin - Malkin - Hornqvist
Sheary - Brassard - Kessel
Kuhnhackl - Sheahan - Rowney

Defense
Dumoulin - Letang
Maatta - Schultz
Hunwick - Oleksiak

DeSmith in the net!

14:45 - MAATTA SCORES HIS SECOND OF THE NIGHT! The Pens win an offensive zone faceoff and the puck goes back to the point. Maatta fires from the blue line and it goes off two Bruin bodies before finding its way past Rask. 8-4 Bruins

14:49 - Rask denies Rust in front. The game has calmed down a bit.

18:43 - Power play time is up for the Pens.

20:00 - The third period is underway! Not sure what to say, except that I hope the Pens hold the Bruins to eight goals. Lets Go Pens!

2nd Period
0:00 - Finally, the second period is over. The Bruins extend their lead to 8-3.

0:44 - The referees have lost control of this game and now it's showing. Power play going to the Pens as Krug is called for interference.

1:23 - Nash throws Letang into the net. The referees make no call.

1:57 - Bruins...Bruins...Bruins. The Pens pulled DeSmith, no change. They get some power plays, nothing. Even a fight doesn't wake them up fully.

5:27 - Krejci scores on the power play. Hat-trick. Krejci finds himself all alone at the side of the net again. Jarry tires to dive back to deny him, but he has no chance. 7-3 Bruins

6:33 - Now the Bruins will get a power play. Hunwick to the sin bin for tripping.

9:10 - Two of the biggest players on the ice decide to drop the gloves. Oleksiak and Chara both get some punches in before deciding to end things mutually. The crowd was loving it.

10:00 - Power play time comes to an end. A great power play by the Pens, but Rask comes up big for the Bruins. Hornqvist was getting bullied left and right in front of the net, but he holds strong. He is such a hard-working player.

12:00 - A critical power-play chance for the Pens as Pastrnak heads to the box for hooking.

12:22 - Maatta and Marchand have been set free.

14:22 - We are getting some more four-on-four hockey as Maatta is called for tripping and Marchand is ticketed with embellishment.

15:00 - Malkin and Schaller are set free.

16:13 - Krejci and McAvoy get a two-on-one...almost zero...chance. Krejci goes to McAvoy, but his shot is denied by the pad of Jarry. The odd-man rush was due to a turnover by Kessel in the neutral zone.

16:39 - Guentzel and Brad Marchand exchange a few words and hits. Things are getting chippy.

17:00 - McAvoy comes out of nowhere and lays a hard hit on Hornqvist. They start to shove each other and a disagreement breaks out with players gathering to defend their respective teammates. Malkin and Tim Schaller get matching roughing minors.

17:44 - Krejci scores his second of the night. A power-play goal. The Bruins power play had been held off well by the Pens until the Bruins won a puck battle on the side boards. At the point, Nick Holden finds Krejci at the side of the net all alone at the side of the net. He puts it in the wide-open net. 6-3 Bruins

19:32 - Jarry with a solid save to start the period. However, Dumoulin ends up taking a holding penalty. A power play chance for the Bruins. Another huge kill ahead for the Pens.

20:00 - Time for the second period! The Pens need to clean up their game, defensively, and try to get more sustain pressure going in the Bruins zone. Lets Go Pens!

1st Period
0:00 - That will do it for the first period. The Bruins hold the 5-3 lead.

0:03 - SHEAHAN SCORES! Sheahan blocks a shot and ends up gaining control of the puck. As the period is coming to an end, Sheahan races up the ice and enters the zone. He slaps a quick one on net and beats Rask short side. 5-3 Bruins

0:53 - Power play time expires. Maatta fires a shot from the point, but Rask is able to make the save even with traffic in front.

2:53 - A huge chance for the Pens to gain some ground as Krejci takes a seat for tripping. Power play time.

3:14 - Rowney seems to score, but the play is under review as he did kick the puck with his skate. The referees ruled it a no goal as the puck was kicked in.

3:53 - Torey Krug scores. Krug fires from the point and beats Jarry glove side. Jarry has to make that save there. 5-2 Bruins
4:29 - Pens are being outplayed defensively. They are getting beat in the faceoff circle and being outshot.

12:53 - Terrible time to take a penalty, but that is exactly what the Pens do. Dumoulin is called for high-sticking and the Bruins are headed back onto the power play.

13:55 - Bruins still having their way in the offensive zone. The Pens really need to figure something out.

14:33 - DeSmith is done for the night and Jarry will replace him in the net. I feel bad for DeSmith as the Pens haven't played well in front of him, but maybe this will wake them up.

14:33 - Nash scores on the power play. Torey Krug puts the puck right in front of the net for Nash, who has the inside position on Oleksiak. He redirects the puck past DeSmith. No chance for DeSmith. 3-1 Bruins

15:27 - The first power play of the game goes to the Bruins as Malkin sits for interference. Malkin is very upset with the call. Critical penalty kill. The Pens need to stop the bleeding.

17:07 - David Pastrnak scores. The Bruins are able to protect the puck, which allows for Pastrnak to get a shot off with some bodies in front of the net. The puck goes over DeSmith and slowly trickles over the goal line. DeSmith had no idea where the puck was. 2-1 Bruins

Derick Brassard makes his Penguin debut

By: MF,

Some big news to report for the Pittsburgh Penguins before tonight's game against the New Jersey Devils.

General Manager, Jim Rutherford announced that Patric Hornqvist has been signed to a five-year contract extension with an average annual value of $5.3 million. It's very rare for Rutherford to make contract deals in the middle of a season, but it was important to tie down Hornqvist as soon as possible.

On to other news, Tristan Jarry was recalled from Wilkes/Barre-Scranton as Matt Murray is out with a concussion. He will be backing up Casey DeSmith tonight.

In addition, Derick Brassard will be making his debut as a Penguin. His debut couldn't come at a better time as the Penguins are playing at home, so he should get a very warm welcome to Pittsburgh.

I am excited to see the new lines get to work for the Penguins and put some points on the scoreboard. Lets Go Pens!

The Pens lineup is as follows:

Forwards
Guentzel - Crosby - Rust
Hagelin - Malkin - Hornqvist
Sheary - Brassard - Kessel
Kuhnhackl - Sheahan - Rowney

Defense
Dumoulin - Letang
Maatta - Schultz
Hunwick - Oleksiak

0:00 - The Devils hang on to get the 3-2 win over the Pens. Tough loss.

0:27 - Pens call a timeout.

0:32 - I have to say that Schultz has been awesome in this last minute of play. Some great plays to keep the puck in the zone and stopping the Devils from getting an empty net goal.

1:40 - Pens have an empty net.

3:02 - Letang fires a hard shot that bounces off the boards to the side of the net. Rust just misses the puck at the side of the net. He had a wide-open chance there.

4:01 - DeSmith with two quality saves back-to-back. Devils still pressuring.

4:57 - Kinkaid has been solid in net for the Devils and has kept the Pens at bay. Things have tightened up this period.

11:56 - Power play time expires for the Pens. Devils with the better scoring chances even though they were on the penalty kill.

13:56 - A huge power play chance for the Pens as Brian Boyle is called for holding.

14:14 - The Devils are charging right up to the net. DeSmith was able to hold strong, but he shouldn't have to deal with players right up in his face almost every shift.

15:35 - Taylor Hall scores on the power play. The puck goes right off the crossbar right to Hall, who is all alone at the side of the net. He puts it in the open net. 2-1 Devils

17:00 - Michael Grabner gets behind the defense and has a breakaway chance. DeSmith denies him, but Letang is called for slashing on the play. Devils to the power play.

3:09 - DeSmith holds strong and is able to cover up the puck for a whistle. The Devils are crashing the net and getting physical with DeSmith.

4:12 - Kessel gets time and space down the win, but he fires one wide.

7:41 - Kyle Palmieri scores. Palmieri enters the zone and changes the shooting angle as he uses Oleksiak as a screen. His shot beats DeSmith short-side. 1-1 tie game.

11:43 - CROSBY SCORES! Dumoulin fires a shot from the blue line with Crosby stationed in front. The puck goes off a Devil skate and the pads of Kinkaid. The puck ends up loose in the blue paint. Crosby finds the loose puck and puts it in the open net. Devils challenge for goalie interference. It's called a good goal and the Devils lose their timeout. 1-0 Pens

13:42 - Shots are tied at 4 for both teams.

Enjoying the Sunshine State

By: MF,

We are back for the second of a back-to-back for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tonight they are in Sunrise, Florida to take on the Florida Panthers.

The Penguins have been on a roll, winning six in a row. For a win tonight, the Penguins need to remain focused throughout the game and make sure to keep the front of their own net clear for Tristan Jarry.

Will the Panthers derail the red-hot Penguins or will the Penguins continue to put together win after win? Find out tonight. Lets Go Pens!

The Pens lineup is as follows:

Forwards
Simon - Crosby - Rust
Hagelin - Malkin - Hornqvist
Guentzel - Sheahan - Kessel
Aston-Reese - Rowney - Sheary

Defense
Dumoulin - Letang
Maatta - Schultz
Hunwick - Oleksiak

Jarry in the net!

Play - by - Play
Pens 5 Panthers 6

1:30 - Empty net for the Pens.

1:52 - Hornqvist ends up getting a misconduct penalty. He is done for the night. Not sure what he did, but it was after the Panthers retook the lead.

1:53 - Dadonov with the hat-trick. Barkov finds Dadonov at the other side of the net all alone. He holds, waits for Murray to make a move, and roofs it. 6-5 Panthers

Dumoulin ends up picking up the puck from the pile and goes behind the net. He finds Rust open at the faceoff circle. Rust fires on net while Luongo is down and out. 5-5 tie game.

5:39 - HORNQVIST SCORES ON THE POWER PLAY! Malkin, Kessel, and Crosby work behind the net. Kessel ends up getting the puck in front where Hornqvist is stationed. His first shot is denied, but he puts in the rebound chance. 5-4 Panthers

5:47 - Now the Pens will get their first power play for 1:55.

5:53 - Oleksiak lays a heavy hit on Mike Matheson. Bjugstad goes after Oleksiak and they drop the gloves. Oleksiak gets the better of the fight. Bjustad ends up getting an extra minor for roughing. Four-on-four hockey for five seconds.

9:55 - Panthers with too many men on the ice, but the referees are none the wiser it seems.

10:20 - Ekblad's one-timer is stopped by Murray.

0:00 - The horn sounds to end the second period. Panthers lead is now 4-2.

1:57 - Hornqvist seems to score. Malkin comes flying around to the back of the net and ends up leaving the puck with Hornqvist at the side. The puck is up against the pad of Luongo. Hornqvist goes give up and he pushes the puck and pad over the goal line. The referee initially waved it off as a no goal, they gathered to discuss, and end up ruling it a goal...Panthers have challenged for goalie interference. The referees state that the puck and goalie were pushed into the goal, so it's not a goal. Wow.

4:29 - Murray has come up with some big saves. Not an easy game to come into and he is holding down the fort.

15:31 - Malkin with a perfect pass across the offensive zone to Kessel at the back door. Kessel had a wide open net, but Ekblad was just able to get a stick on the puck to disrupt the play.

15:59 - Jarry gets to the top of the circle to deny Aaron Ekblad in front.

16:37 - Aleksander Barkov is denied by Jarry. He was given way too much room to do whatever he wanted. The Pens on playing on their heels right now.

Well rested and ready to make it six

By: MF,

We are back for some Pittsburgh Penguins hockey tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Penguins have been on a little break after their 5-2 Sunday over the Columbus Blue Jackets. It was their fifth win in a row, which is a new high this season. They will look to extend that streak to six tonight and they have every chance of doing that.

On the injury front, Patric Hornqvist will return to the lineup tonight. A huge boost to the Penguins robust lineup.

On a side note, be on the lookout for a possible trade involving the Vegas Golden Knights and Ryan Reaves. Maybe some kind of deal with Ian Cole. Who knows? I will keep up guys updated as things unfold.

After a long break, the Penguins should be well rested and ready for tonight's game. They need to come out with speed and set the pace early. Lets Go Pens!

The Pens lineup is as follows:

Forwards
Simon - Crosby - Rust
Hagelin - Malkin - Hornqvist
Guentzel - Sheahan - Kessel
Aston-Reese - Rowney - Sheary

Defense
Dumoulin - Letang
Maatta - Schultz
Hunwick - Oleksiak

Murray in the net!

TRADE ALERT: The Pens have completed a three-team deal with the Vegas Golden Knights and the Ottawa Senators. The Pens acquired Derick Brassard (Ottawa), 2018 3rd round draft pick, prospect Vince Dunn (Ottawa), and prospect Tobias Lindberg (Vegas). Also, Vegas will retain 40% of Brassard's contract.

Vegas receives Ryan Reaves and a 4th round draft pick from Pittsburgh.
Ottawa receives Ian Cole (Pittsburgh), Filip Gustavsson (Vegas), 2018 1st round draft pick, and 2019 3rd round draft pick.

Back-to-back situation - part two

By: MF,

A quick little update to begin things with. My arena schedule has conflicted with the Penguin games, so that is why I haven't covered the last few games. However, tonight I am back.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are back on the road. Tonight they face-off against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Penguins have been gaining points, scoring goals, and playing some solid hockey.

This shouldn't change and the Penguins need to play consistent hockey. If they can do that, then the Penguins will have no trouble as the playoffs approach. Lets Go Pens!

The Pens lineup is as follows:

Forwards
Aston-Reese - Crosby - Sheary
Hagelin - Malkin - Rust
Guentzel - Sheahan - Kessel
Simon - Rowney - Reaves

Defense
Dumoulin - Letang
Maatta - Hunwick
Cole - Oleksiak

Jarry in the net!

20:00 - The puck has dropped and this game is underway! The Pens need to come out and take control early, especially after playing last night. Lets Go Pens!
